Zeigegesten
Zeigegesten are a category of nonverbal gestures used to indicate referents in space or discourse during communication. The term combines zeigen, to show, with Gesten, gestures, and in English literature the phenomenon is often described as deictic or referential gestures. Zeigegesten include pointing at persons or objects to designate them, as well as broader, often iconic movements that illustrate a referent’s properties or location relative to the speaker.
