Zatitilis

Zatitilis is a genus of extinct marine reptiles belonging to the order Plesiosauria. These marine reptiles lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 70 to 75 million years ago. Fossil evidence of zatitilis has been found in various locations, primarily in North America. The genus was first described in 2007 based on fossil remains discovered in the United States.

The most distinguishing feature of zatitilis is its relatively short neck compared to many other pliosaurid plesiosaurs, which are characterized by long necks. This anatomical difference suggests a potentially different hunting strategy or niche within its marine environment. Like other plesiosaurs, zatitilis possessed a streamlined body, four powerful flippers for propulsion, and a skull adapted for capturing prey. The exact size of zatitilis individuals is not fully determined due to incomplete fossil records, but it is believed to have been a medium-sized predator.
