Yksifaasisjärjestelmä, meaning single-phase system in Finnish, refers to an electrical power distribution system that uses a single alternating current voltage waveform. This is in contrast to a two-phase or three-phase system, which utilizes multiple alternating current waveforms. In a typical single-phase system, two conductors are used: a live wire and a neutral wire. The voltage between these two wires varies sinusoidally over time, powering electrical devices.

Single-phase power is commonly found in residential and small commercial buildings where the demand for electricity is relatively low. It is sufficient for powering most household appliances, lighting, and smaller machinery. The generation of single-phase power is simpler and less expensive than multi-phase systems. However, for larger industrial loads or areas requiring more power, three-phase systems are generally preferred due to their higher efficiency and ability to deliver more power with smaller conductors.

The voltage levels in single-phase systems can vary depending on the region and application.
