Yhdistelmälogiikkaelementti, often translated as a combinational logic element or circuit, is a fundamental building block in digital electronics. Unlike sequential logic elements, the output of a combinational logic element depends solely on its current input values. There is no memory involved; the circuit instantly reacts to changes in the input signals.

These elements are designed to perform specific logical operations, such as AND, OR, NOT, NAND, NOR, XOR, and XNOR. Each operation corresponds to a truth table that defines the output for every possible combination of input states. For example, an AND gate outputs a '1' only if all its inputs are '1', while an OR gate outputs a '1' if at least one of its inputs is '1'.

Combinational logic elements are implemented using transistors, often arranged in integrated circuits. They are essential for constructing more complex digital systems. For instance, arithmetic logic units (ALUs), which perform calculations in processors, are built using a combination of adder and subtractor circuits, themselves made of combinational logic. Decoders, encoders, multiplexers, and demultiplexers are other common examples of combinational logic circuits used extensively in digital design. The predictable and immediate response of these elements makes them crucial for all forms of digital computation and control.
