Yarborough

Yarborough is a card game played with a standard 52-card deck. The primary objective of Yarborough is to be the first player to get rid of all their cards. The game is characterized by its unique scoring system, which rewards players for holding specific types of hands.

Players are dealt a hand of cards, typically seven or eight, depending on the number of players. The remaining cards form a draw pile. Play proceeds clockwise, with players drawing a card from the draw pile and then discarding a card. The goal is to create sets of cards or runs that can be played on the table. A set consists of three or four cards of the same rank, while a run is a sequence of three or more cards of the same suit.

A key feature of Yarborough is the "Yarborough" hand itself. This is a hand containing no pairs, no runs of three or more, and no cards that are high enough to be considered particularly valuable. Holding a Yarborough hand often results in a player receiving bonus points, as it represents a less advantageous starting position. The scoring system typically assigns points for cards laid down and penalties for cards remaining in hand at the end of a round. The game continues until a player reaches a predetermined score, or until all players agree to end the game.
