Yanahuara

Yanahuara is a district of Arequipa Province in the Arequipa Region of Peru. It lies on the western and southern slopes of the city of Arequipa, just outside the historic center, and overlooks the Chili River valley and the Misti volcano.

Characterized by the use of sillar, the white volcanic stone common to Arequipa, the district features traditional homes, narrow winding streets, and leafy avenues that rise along the hillside.

One of the district's most recognizable landmarks is the Mirador de Yanahuara, a viewpoint formed by a series of arches that frame panoramic views of Arequipa, the surrounding valley, and El Misti. In the core of Yanahuara there is a parish church and a central plaza that function as a social and religious hub.

Yanahuara is primarily residential, with a mix of local commerce, hotels, and restaurants that serve residents and visitors. The district is connected to central Arequipa by major roads and public transport routes, making it a destination for residents and visitors seeking scenery and a quieter atmosphere.

Historically, Yanahuara developed as part of Arequipa's urban expansion during the colonial period and into the republican era, and today it is regarded as one of the city's traditional districts.
