Yakisugi

Yakisugi, also known as Shou Sugi Ban, is a traditional Japanese method of wood preservation. The process involves charring the surface of wood, typically cedar, by burning it. This charring creates a protective layer that offers several benefits.

The primary advantage of yakisugi is its increased durability and resistance to the elements. The charred layer acts as a natural barrier against insects, such as termites, and prevents rot by making the wood less susceptible to moisture absorption. Furthermore, the charring process makes the wood fire resistant, as the outermost layer has already been burned.
