Wärmedämmplatten

Wärmedämmplatten, also known as insulation boards, are prefabricated elements used to improve the thermal insulation of buildings. They are designed to reduce heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer, thereby contributing to energy efficiency and occupant comfort. These boards are typically made from rigid foam materials such as polystyrene (EPS and XPS), polyurethane (PUR), or mineral wool. The choice of material depends on factors like desired thermal performance, fire resistance requirements, moisture resistance, and cost.

Wärmedämmplatten are applied in various construction contexts, including exterior walls (External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems or ETICS), roofs, floors, and basement walls. In ETICS, the insulation boards are adhered to the exterior of the building, then covered with a reinforced render system. This method is highly effective in preventing thermal bridges and improving the overall building envelope's performance. For interior insulation, boards can be applied to the inside of walls, though this can reduce the interior space.

The effectiveness of Wärmedämmplatten is measured by their thermal conductivity (lambda value), which indicates how well they resist heat flow. Lower lambda values signify better insulation. Their installation requires careful attention to detail to ensure a continuous insulation layer and proper sealing against air and moisture penetration. Proper installation is crucial to achieving the intended energy savings and preventing potential issues like mold growth.
