Wyomings

Wyomings are a type of provincial or territorial constituency within Canadian provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. These groups are also referred to as poll divisions or electoral divisions.

The term "Wyoming" does not refer to the U.S. state of the same name. However, the Canadian constituencies were likely named after the state due to their unique nature - they are typically rural and less populous compared to other constituencies within the same province.

In Alberta, the territory now known as the district of Wyoming was once a separate riding. This district has merged with the current riding of Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville. A similar merging occurred in the Manitoba provincial election in 2011. Two commission ridings or provincial electoral divisions were merged into one riding, resulting in the creation of the current constituency also named Wyoming.

Saskatchewan is the only province to have a separate riding referred to as "Wyoming" within its electoral district configuration. In 1866, the district of Wyoming was one of the original electoral divisions formed under the Saskatchewan Act. Since then, the district has undergone several amalgamations with surrounding ridings, reformulations due to provincial population shifts, and redistricting occurrences over the years.

These provincial Canadian electorates therefore remain active since those early setups but might carry other geographic names over the course of electoral cycles. They support territorial voting requirements. Overall, Canadian ridings continue to evolve according to advancements and upbeat need in traditionally rural areas.
