Wrightbræðrum, often anglicized as the Wright brothers, were two American aviation pioneers, Orville Wright and Wilbur Wright. They are credited with inventing, building, and flying the world's first successful motor-operated airplane, and making the first controlled, sustained flight by a powered heavier-than-air aircraft with a pilot. Their historic achievement took place on December 17, 1903, near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
