Wolverton

Wolverton is a town in Buckinghamshire, England, within the City of Milton Keynes. It lies about two miles northwest of Milton Keynes town centre and developed in the 19th century as a railway town. The locomotive works at Wolverton, established by the London and North Western Railway in the 1830s and expanded in the following decades, was one of the earliest large-scale depots and became a major employer. The works and the associated railway infrastructure spurred the construction of housing, schools, shops, and other amenities and gave the town a distinctive industrial heritage that is still visible in its street patterns and older buildings.

After mid-20th century changes in rail employment, the works eventually closed or downsized, and the site was redeveloped for housing and business use. Today Wolverton is a suburban area of Milton Keynes with its own town centre, local shops, and community facilities. The town is served by Wolverton railway station on the West Coast Main Line, providing regular services to London Euston, Birmingham, and other destinations, making rail travel a central part of its connectivity.

Notable features include historic Victorian-era housing and conservation areas that preserve the town’s original layout. Wolverton also hosts community groups, a library, and cultural events that reflect its railway-town heritage while integrating with the wider Milton Keynes area.
