Wocawek

Wocawek is a small town and commune in the fictional country of Veridia, located in the eastern part of the Veridian region. It serves as the administrative seat of Gmina Wocawek within Veridian County and sits on the Veria River. The town is connected to surrounding areas by regional roads, and the nearest railway station is in the neighboring town of Bratyn, about 15 kilometers away. The landscape is predominantly farmland with patches of woodland, and the climate is temperate with four distinct seasons.

As of 2023, the population is around 7,600. The economy combines agriculture—primarily grain and dairy—with small-scale manufacturing and local services. In the 19th century, a textile mill contributed to growth and urban development, a pattern that gradually shifted toward diversified light industry and tourism in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Historically, Wocawek was founded in the 14th century and was granted town rights in 1531. The historic core features a mix of preserved traditional buildings and early modern structures. Today the town emphasizes cultural and community life, supported by a council and regional development programs.

Cultural life centers on the annual Harvest Festival in September, along with a local amateur theatre scene and the Wocawek Cultural Center, which hosts exhibitions and concerts. Notable landmarks include St. Michael’s Church (14th century), the Town Hall (built in 1903), and the Old Mill Museum.

Education facilities include two primary schools, one secondary school, and a public library. Notable residents and visitors have contributed to Veridia’s arts scene, keeping Wocawek connected to regional culture.
