Wittenberge

Wittenberge is a town in the Prignitz district, in the state of Brandenburg, Germany. It has a population of around 17,000 people and serves as the administrative center of the district.

The town is situated in thelowest part of the river Elbe's valley, approximately 30 kilometers northwest of Potsdam and 100 kilometers west of Berlin. Wittenberge is placed on the left bank of the Elbe, where the river passes the Elbtalaue Biosphere Reserve.

Industrial activities were significant in Wittenberge's history, particularly in the iron and steel industries. The town was an important center for coal mining, steel production, and machinery manufacturing, with various companies operating in the area. Today, the economic significance of these industries has decreased, and the town has transitioned towards other sectors such as services, retail, and tourism.
