Winkies

Winkies are a fictional race of small, winged beings featured in L. Frank Baum's Oz books. They are first introduced in the novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" as the servants of the Wicked Witch of the West. Winkies are described as being of a yellow complexion and are known for their subservience and hard labor. They are compelled to obey the commands of whoever possesses the Golden Cap, which allows them to summon and control the winged monkeys.

Following the defeat of the Wicked Witch of the West by Dorothy, the Winkies are freed from her tyranny. They express their gratitude to Dorothy and are depicted as a generally kind and industrious people. In later books, the Winkies continue to be a part of the Oz landscape, often portrayed as loyal subjects of the various rulers of Oz. Their role primarily involves performing tasks and contributing to the general well-being of the Emerald City and its surrounding territories. Their physical appearance, though small, is often associated with a capacity for diligent work and a strong sense of community within their own kind.
