Willem-Alexander Claus George Ferdinand, born 27 April 1967 in Utrecht, is the King of the Netherlands, serving since his mother Beatrix abdicated in 2013. He is a member of the House of Orange-Nassau and was previously Prince of Orange and heir apparent to the Dutch throne. He is the eldest son of Beatrix and Claus, Count of Orange-Nassau.

On 2 February 2002, he married Máxima Zorreguieta Cerruti, an Argentine-born former banker and public figure. They have three daughters: Catharina-Amalia, Princess of Orange (b. 2003); Princess Alexia (b. 2005); and Princess Ariane (b. 2007). Catharina-Amalia became heir apparent after his accession.

Education and early career: He studied history at Leiden University and completed military service with the Dutch armed forces, holding various public and charitable roles and undertaking duties typical of a Dutch prince.

Reign and duties: Beatrix abdicated on 30 April 2013, and Willem-Alexander’s accession marked the first Dutch king since 1890. His reign has involved modernizing aspects of the monarchy, undertaking state visits, and focusing on issues such as water management, sustainability, and international cooperation. He and Máxima have been prominent in public diplomacy and charitable activities, including support for cultural, humanitarian, and social initiatives in the Netherlands and abroad.
