Whisperwood

Whisperwood is a town and surrounding forested region in Northland Province, Eldoria. It lies along the Whisper River and is part of the Whisperwood Protected Forest. As of 2023, the town had an estimated population of 7,900. The name comes from wind through the pines that create a whisper-like sound.

The forest covers about 92 square kilometers and comprises mixed deciduous and conifer stands, wetlands, and riparian habitats. The area supports wildlife such as white-tailed deer, beaver, and several bird species. The Whisper River runs through the town, feeding nearby lakes.

Founded as a logging settlement in 1834, Whisperwood expanded through timber and milling. In the mid-20th century the industry declined, and in the 1960s conservation initiatives led to the designation of protected forest areas. Since then the local economy shifted toward sustainable forestry, ecotourism, and crafts.

Main sectors include sustainable timber production, tourism, and small-scale manufacturing. The town center hosts a library, a health clinic, and schools. There is a district museum focusing on regional forestry and Indigenous history.

The annual Whisperwood Festival of Leaves draws visitors for music, crafts, and nature workshops. Notable landmarks include Moonshadow Gorge and the Whisperwood Trail, a network of hiking routes through the forest.

Whisperwood is governed by a municipal council within Northland District. It is connected by Route 57 and local roads; there is no rail service. The Whisperwood Municipal Airport provides limited air access.
