Whartoni

Whartoni is a small town and municipality in the eastern district of Eldoria, a fictional country. It lies in the Wharton Valley along the Whar River, about 60 kilometers northeast of Eldara, the capital. The municipality covers 28.4 square kilometers and had a population of about 3,200 in 2023.

The name derives from the Wharton family, early settlers who established a river crossing and a water-powered mill in the mid-17th century. The town gained limited municipal autonomy in 1808 and developed through agriculture and small-scale industry in the 19th century.

Whartoni sits in a region with a mild temperate climate and four distinct seasons. The landscape is a river plain with fields, meadows, and scattered woodlands. The Whar River provides irrigation, fishing opportunities, and recreational spaces for residents and visitors.

Whartoni’s economy centers on agriculture (wheat and dairy), light manufacturing (wood products), and services. A weekly market and a small tourism sector focus on historic sites and riverside trails. The town is connected by regional roads, and the nearest rail link is about 12 to 15 kilometers away, with bus services linking to Eldara and nearby towns.

Cultural and educational life centers on a parish church dating to 1720 and a small local history museum. Annual events include the Wharton Harvest Festival in autumn and a summer river festival. Education is provided by a primary school in town and a nearby secondary school serving the surrounding area.
