Westerwolde
Westerwolde is a region in the northeast of the Netherlands, located in the province of Groningen near the border with Germany. The name derives from its position west of the historic border forests that marked the eastern edge of Groningen. In contemporary administration, Westerwolde is a municipality in Groningen that was formed on 1 January 2017 from the merger of the former municipalities of Bellingwedde and Vlagtwedde. It is the easternmost municipality of the province and lies along the German frontier.
