They encompass information gathered during exploration, drilling, completion, production, and decommissioning, as well as post-closure data. The term is used in professional contexts to describe structured data collections that support analysis, planning, and compliance.

The range of well data includes identification and location (well name or API number, coordinates), borehole geometry (trajectory, depth, casing and tubing), and construction records (drilling reports, cementing, completion details).
