Weechat

Weechat is a free and open-source IRC client, a widely used communication software, originally developed by Sébastien Hien in 2003. It is primarily distributed under the GNU General Public License (GPL) and is available for various operating systems including Linux, macOS, and Windows.

Weechat's primary function is to connect users to Internet Relay Chat (IRC) servers, allowing them to engage in real-time discussions with others connected to the same server. It features a diverse set of plugins that can be used to extend its functionality. The client's interface is white-on-black by default, which can cause discernibility issues for users with eyes sensitive to light. However, it provides an option for changing the color scheme, a function that users with particular preferences can adjust to suit their needs.

Development of Weechat is enhanced through both official and unofficial plugins, delivered through the official repository and elsewhere on the internet. It continues to be an effective, yet importantly free software option for real-time messaging.
