Wedjat

The Wedjat, also known as the Eye of Horus or the Eye of Ra, is a powerful symbol from ancient Egyptian mythology. It represents protection, royal power, and good health. The symbol is a stylized human eye with falcon markings, often depicted as a human eye with a falcon's markings below it. Its origins are linked to the myth of Horus and Seth, where Horus loses his eye in a battle with his uncle Seth. Thoth, the god of wisdom and magic, later restores Horus's eye. This restoration signifies healing, wholeness, and the triumph of good over evil.

The Wedjat was widely used as an amulet in ancient Egypt. It was believed to possess protective properties, warding off evil spirits and granting the wearer good health and well-being. It was often inscribed on sarcophagi, tomb walls, and jewelry. The symbol also played a significant role in funerary rituals, ensuring the deceased's safe passage into the afterlife. The different parts of the Wedjat symbol were also used to represent fractions in ancient Egyptian mathematics, with each part corresponding to a specific fraction of a hekat, a unit of volume. This mathematical association further highlights the symbol's importance and integration into various aspects of Egyptian life.
