Wearmouth-Jarrow was a significant double monastery founded in the Kingdom of Northumbria during the Anglo-Saxon period. Its foundation is attributed to Benedict Biscop, who established the monastery at Wearmouth in 674 AD, followed by the Jarrow foundation in 682 AD. These two religious houses, located on opposite banks of the River Wear, were closely linked and often referred to collectively.
