Washbasins

A washbasin, also known as a sink or lavatory, is a plumbing fixture found in bathrooms and kitchens. Its primary purpose is to provide a receptacle for washing hands, face, and other body parts, as well as for cleaning objects. Washbasins are typically made of ceramic, porcelain, or stainless steel, though other materials like stone, glass, and composite materials are also used. They come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and designs to suit different aesthetic preferences and functional requirements.

The basic components of a washbasin include a basin itself, a faucet or tap for water supply, and a drain for wastewater removal. Various types of faucets are available, including single-handle mixers, separate hot and cold taps, and sensor-activated models for hands-free operation. Drains can be fitted with stoppers to hold water in the basin or left open for continuous flow. Plumbing connections for both water supply and drainage are essential for the basin's functionality.

Washbasins can be installed in several ways. Pedestal sinks have a base that supports the basin and conceals the plumbing. Wall-mounted sinks are attached directly to the wall, offering a minimalist look and making floor cleaning easier. Undermount sinks are installed beneath the countertop, creating a seamless transition. Drop-in or top-mounted sinks rest on top of the countertop, with the rim visible. Vessel sinks are freestanding basins that sit entirely on top of the countertop. The choice of installation method depends on factors such as space availability, design style, and the type of countertop used.
