WSRM

WSRM, or the World Summit on the Information Society, is an international forum for the global information society. It was established by the United Nations in 2003 to address the digital divide and promote the development of information and communication technologies (ICTs) for all. The summit is held every two years and brings together governments, the private sector, civil society, and international organizations to discuss and develop policies and strategies for the information society.

The first WSRM was held in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2003, and the second in Tunis, Tunisia, in 2005. The third summit, held in Geneva in 2008, resulted in the Tunis Commitment, a set of principles and actions to promote the development of the information society. The fourth summit, held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, in 2010, focused on the role of ICTs in achieving the Millennium Development Goals. The fifth summit, held in Geneva in 2012, resulted in the Geneva Declaration of Principles, which emphasizes the importance of freedom of expression, privacy, and security in the information society.

The WSRM is an important platform for discussing and addressing the challenges and opportunities of the information society. It provides a forum for dialogue and cooperation among stakeholders, and it helps to build a global consensus on the development of ICTs. The summit also plays a key role in promoting the United Nations' vision of a global information society that is inclusive, equitable, and sustainable.
