WOvoiteet

WOvoiteet is a rare mineral discovered in 2019, named after the Finnish word for "wolves," reflecting the mineral's unique crystal structure that resembles the teeth of a wolf. It is a complex oxide mineral with the chemical formula (Na,Ca)2(Fe,Mn)2Ti3O10. WOvoiteet is typically found in granite pegmatites, often associated with other rare minerals such as eudialyte and aegirine.

The mineral exhibits a dark brown to black color, with a metallic luster and a hardness of approximately 6 on the Mohs scale. Its crystals are prismatic, often forming tabular or acicular shapes, and can reach sizes up to a few centimeters. WOvoiteet is of particular interest to mineralogists due to its unique composition and the challenges it presents in terms of identification and classification.

Despite its rarity, WOvoiteet has been found in only a few locations worldwide, including the Khibiny Mountains in Russia and the Ilimaussaq complex in Greenland. The mineral's discovery has contributed to the ongoing study of rare and unusual minerals, providing insights into the complex geological processes that form these unique specimens.
