The term "vörösödést" is derived from the Hungarian language, where "vörös" means red and "ödést" refers to a bloom or proliferation.

Red tides are typically caused by an increase in the population of dinoflagellates, which can be triggered by various factors such as nutrient enrichment from agricultural runoff, sewage discharge, or natural upwelling of nutrient-rich waters.
