Véráramlástechnika, also known as hemodynamics, is the study of blood flow within the circulatory system. It encompasses the physical principles governing the movement of blood through vessels, including pressure, flow rate, resistance, and viscosity. Understanding hemodynamics is crucial in diagnosing and treating various cardiovascular conditions.

Key concepts in véráramlástechnika include Poiseuille's Law, which describes the relationship between flow rate, pressure gradient, vessel radius, and viscosity. Blood viscosity, the thickness of blood, is influenced by factors like red blood cell count and plasma protein concentration, and it significantly impacts resistance to flow. Vessel elasticity and compliance also play vital roles, as they allow arteries to expand and contract, smoothing out the pulsatile flow from the heart.

Changes in vascular resistance, often due to vasoconstriction or vasodilation, directly affect blood pressure and flow distribution. For instance, narrowed blood vessels increase resistance, leading to higher blood pressure. Abnormalities in venous return, the flow of blood back to the heart, can result in conditions like edema. Advanced techniques like Doppler ultrasound and magnetic resonance angiography allow for non-invasive assessment of blood flow patterns and velocities, aiding in the detection of blockages, aneurysms, and other circulatory disturbances.
