Værktøjslængde refers to the total length of a cutting tool, including its shank and the portion that extends beyond the toolholder. This dimension is critical in various machining operations, particularly in milling and turning. The effective tool length, which is the distance from the cutting edge to the spindle face or tool turret, influences the tool's rigidity, its susceptibility to vibration, and its ability to reach features on a workpiece.

A longer værktøjslængde generally reduces rigidity, leading to increased tool deflection and potential for chatter. This can negatively impact surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
