Värviesitusvõimet, often translated as color rendering, refers to the ability of a light source to reveal the colors of objects in a truthful and natural way. It is a crucial factor in various applications where accurate color perception is important, such as photography, graphic design, retail, and medical diagnostics. The concept is quantified by the Color Rendering Index (CRI), a scale from 0 to 100 that indicates how well a light source's spectrum matches that of a reference source, typically a blackbody radiator.

A CRI of 100 represents a perfect match, meaning the light source reveals colors identically to the reference source. As the CRI value decreases, so does the ability of the light source to accurately render colors. For instance, a light source with a low CRI might make reds appear duller or blues seem washed out. Different light sources, such as incandescent bulbs, fluorescent lamps, and LEDs, have varying CRI values.

When evaluating lighting, it's important to consider the intended use. For general ambient lighting, a moderate CRI might suffice. However, for tasks requiring precise color differentiation, such as in art galleries or textile manufacturing, a high CRI is essential. The spectral power distribution of a light source, which describes the relative intensity of light at different wavelengths, is fundamental to its color rendering capabilities. Sources with a continuous and balanced spectrum tend to have higher CRI values.
