Värivääristymä, also known as color distortion or color aberration, refers to the phenomenon where the colors of an image are not accurately represented. This can occur due to various factors in the image capture, processing, or display stages.

In photography and videography, chromatic aberration is a common type of color distortion. It happens when a lens fails to focus all colors of light onto the same point, leading to a colored fringe around objects, particularly in high-contrast areas. This is more pronounced with simpler lens designs.

Digital image processing can also introduce or correct color distortions. Color balance adjustments are used to compensate for lighting conditions or to achieve a desired aesthetic. However, incorrect white balance settings can result in a color cast, making the entire image appear too blue, yellow, or other colors.

Display devices like monitors and screens can also exhibit color distortion. Calibration is often necessary to ensure that the colors displayed are accurate. Aging components or manufacturing variations can cause a monitor to produce inaccurate colors over time.

Furthermore, certain lighting conditions, such as fluorescent lights, can produce a spectrum of light that leads to color shifts in captured images. Similarly, the perception of color can be subjective and influenced by surrounding colors and the observer's own visual system. Understanding and mitigating these distortions is crucial for achieving accurate and faithful color reproduction in visual media.
