Värisävyille is a Finnish term that translates to "shades of color" in English. It refers to the variations of a single hue created by adding white, black, or gray to the base color, thus producing lighter or darker tones. The concept is fundamental in color theory and is widely used in fields such as graphic design, interior decorating, and fine arts to convey mood, depth, and emphasis.

In visual composition, värisävyille can be employed to create contrast and hierarchy. A palette that includes both saturated primary hues and their muted shades allows designers to balance vibrancy with subtlety. When colors are too saturated, they may dominate a design; introducing value variations by adjusting brightness helps create a more harmonious overall look.
