Värisekoitus, a Finnish term, translates to "color mixing" or "color blending." It refers to the process of combining different colors to create new shades and hues. This concept is fundamental in various fields, including art, design, printing, and even natural phenomena.

In painting and visual arts, värisekoitus is achieved through physical mixing of pigments. Artists use color wheels and an understanding of primary, secondary, and tertiary colors to predict the results of mixing. Complementary colors, when mixed, tend to neutralize each other, producing browns or grays. Analogous colors, on the other hand, result in subtle variations of a single color family.

In digital design and display technologies, värisekoitus is often additive, relying on the emission of light. Devices like computer monitors and televisions use red, green, and blue (RGB) light emitters. By varying the intensity of these primary colors, a vast spectrum of other colors can be simulated on screen.
