VäriCRTintä is a color-processing technique used in digital imaging and graphic design to apply a controlled chromatic tint to images while preserving perceived luminance. The approach is designed to produce consistent mood changes across different display devices by adjusting hue and saturation within a defined tint space without large shifts in brightness.

The name merges Finnish roots with technical shorthand. Väri means color and tintä evokes tint, while CR is an abbreviation interpreted as Color Ratio or Chromatic Range. The technique is described in contemporary color-management literature and experimental workflows as a method for disciplined tinting rather than a universal standard.

Process overview: images are first converted to a perceptual color space such as CAM16 or CIELAB. A Tint Curve, controlled by parameters for intensity, hue target, and allowed chroma range, remaps chromatic components along a chosen direction in color space. Luminance is constrained to minimize lightness change, and outputs are tested against device gamuts.

Applications include cinematic color grading, photographic post-production, user interface theming, and printed media where a consistent tint mood is desired. VäriCRTintä supports both global adjustments and region-based tinting through masks or semantic segmentations, enabling targeted atmosphere shifts without affecting overall exposure.

Limitations include reliance on accurate color management and viewing conditions; parameter choices can lead to artifacts or unrealistic colors if overapplied.
