Väestötasoiset

Väestötasoiset is an adjectival Finnish term meaning “at the population level” or “population-wide.” It is used to describe analyses, effects, or statistics that pertain to the entire population rather than to individuals or specific subgroups. The term is common in health sciences, demography, and social sciences, and is often contrasted with yksilötasoiset, meaning “at the individual level.”

In practice, väestötasoiset measures include population-level statistics such as prevalence, incidence, mortality rates, life expectancy, and fertility rates. In epidemiology and public health, population-based (väestötasoiset) studies aim to generalize findings to the whole population from which a sample is drawn and to assess public health impact. Policy evaluations frequently use väestötasoiset assessments to estimate effects on the population as a whole, rather than on particular individuals.

Methodologically, väestötasoiset analyses may rely on aggregate data from registries, surveys, or administrative records. They can be subject to ecological fallacies if inferences are extended to individuals. The term signals a macro-level perspective and is often used alongside other levels of analysis, such as at the group or individual level.
