Válaszfelület, often translated as response surface, is a concept used in statistics and experimental design. It refers to a mathematical model that describes the relationship between one or more input variables and one or more output variables, where the output variable is considered a function of the input variables. The goal of a response surface is typically to find the optimal settings of the input variables that maximize or minimize the output variable.

Response surface methodology (RSM) is a collection of statistical and mathematical techniques used for developing, improving, and optimizing processes. It is particularly useful when the relationship between input and output variables is complex and cannot be easily represented by a simple linear model. RSM employs experimental design to efficiently collect data and then uses regression analysis to fit a mathematical model to the observed data.
