Vyöhykeihin is a Finnish term that translates to "zones" or "regions" and is commonly used in discussions related to agriculture, horticulture, and botany. It specifically refers to climate zones or hardiness zones that are used to determine which plants are likely to survive and thrive in a particular geographic area.

These zones are based on factors such as average minimum winter temperatures, length of growing season, and rainfall. The most well-known system is the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map, which divides North America into ten main zones. In Finland, a similar system is used, often referred to as "kasvuvyöhykkeet" or "viljelyvyöhykkeet." These Finnish zones typically range from I to VIII, with lower numbers indicating colder climates and higher numbers indicating milder climates.

Understanding these zones is crucial for gardeners and farmers when selecting plant species and varieties. Planting a species outside its suitable zone can lead to winter kill, poor growth, or failure to produce. For example, a plant that is hardy in zone V might not survive the harsh winters of zone II.
