Vuoteillas

Vuoteillas is a fictional archipelago and coastal municipality used in speculative fiction and world-building. In the imagined geography, it forms a cluster of three main islands—Isla Norte, Isla Central, and Isla Sur—surrounded by a fringe of islets and reefs. The name Vuoteillas derives from the Vuoteillan language, where vuoto means "shore" and -eillas is a diminutive suffix.

The archipelago has a tropical to subtropical climate with a pronounced wet season. The landscape features mangrove-lined coasts, sandy beaches, and limestone cliffs. Biodiversity is high, with coral reefs offshore and numerous bird species.

Historically, Vuoteillas was settled by seafaring communities around 9th–11th centuries. It developed as a maritime trading stop before falling under colonial administration in the 17th century. Autonomy was granted within a regional federation in the late 20th century.

Administratively, Vuoteillas is part of the Federal Republic of Novara. Local government is a municipal council based in Isla Central, with a governor responsible for inter-island coordination and public services.

As of the latest fictional census, Vuoteillas is home to about 52,000 people. The majority speak Vuoteillan, with Spanish as a common second language. Religions include a mix of indigenous practices and Catholic traditions.

The economy relies on small-scale fishing, ecotourism, and handicrafts. Visitors are drawn to the Marine Reserve, coral reefs, and historic towns. Cultural life centers on markets, seafood cuisine, and the annual Lantern Festival.

Notable sites include the Vuoteilla Lighthouse, the Old Fort of Aster, and the Marine Reserve of Cormorant Sands.
