Vuodenvaihdetta

Vuodenvaihdetta is a Finnish term referring to the turn of the year, the period around the transition from December 31 to January 1. The form vuodenvaihdetta is the partitive singular of vuodenvaihde and is used when the event is mentioned as something to be experienced or observed, for example in expressions like “juhlittiin vuodenvaihdetta.”

In Finnish culture, vuodenvaihdetta is typically marked by social gatherings, festive meals, and a countdown to midnight. A common element is toasting with sparkling wine or champagne at the stroke of midnight, often accompanied by fireworks.
