Vulkanisationsspritzguss, also known as vulcanizing injection molding or rubber injection molding, is a manufacturing process used to produce rubber and elastomer components. It combines the principles of injection molding with the vulcanization process, which is the chemical process of converting natural rubber or polymers into more durable materials by adding sulfur or other equivalent curatives.

In this process, a thermosetting rubber compound is heated and injected under high pressure into a heated mold cavity. The mold is typically a two-part tool that is closed and heated to a specific temperature. As the rubber fills the cavity, the heat from the mold initiates the vulcanization process. This cross-linking of polymer chains gives the rubber its final strength, elasticity, and resistance to heat and chemicals.

The cycle time for vulcanizing injection molding is generally shorter than traditional compression molding or transfer molding because the material is injected rapidly and vulcanization occurs concurrently. This makes it an efficient method for producing large volumes of complex rubber parts with tight tolerances. Common applications include seals, gaskets, O-rings, automotive parts, and medical devices. The process allows for high precision and repeatability, ensuring consistent product quality. Control over temperature, pressure, and injection speed are crucial parameters for achieving optimal results and preventing defects.
