Vooluteoorias

Vooluteoorias, or flow theory, is an interdisciplinary framework for analyzing systems in which quantities move continuously through space and time. It covers physical flows of fluids and gases as well as abstract flows of information, crowds, energy, or commodities. The central aim is to describe how flow fields arise from forces, material properties, and boundary conditions, and how they evolve and interact across scales.

Core concepts include a flow field, velocity, and flux; the continuity equation expressing conservation of mass; and constitutive relations relating stress to deformation. In fluids, the Navier–Stokes (or Euler) equations describe motion; in networks, flow is modeled with conservation at nodes and capacity constraints. Concepts such as laminar and turbulent flow, Reynolds number, vorticity, and boundary layers are treated within vooluteoorias.

Methods include analytical approaches for differential equations, computational fluid dynamics, lattice Boltzmann methods, numerical optimization, and graph-based network models. Empirical methods and experiments complement theory.

Applications include engineering design (aerospace, hydraulics), meteorology and oceanography, cardiovascular research, traffic and urban planning, energy systems, and data networks.

History and status: The term appears in Estonian scholarly usage as a general label for studies of flow phenomena, echoing classical fluid mechanics and modern network theory. It emphasizes cross-disciplinary modeling and uncertainty quantification.
