Vons

Vons is an American supermarket chain operating primarily in Southern California and southern Nevada. It is a subsidiary of Albertsons Companies, one of the largest food and drug retailers in the United States.

Vons began in 1906 as Von's Grocery in Southern California. The company grew through the 20th century, expanding into larger supermarkets and adopting self-service formats that became standard in the industry.

In the 1990s, Vons was acquired by Safeway, Inc., and the combined chain continued to operate under the Vons brand in many California markets. In 2015, Safeway was acquired by Albertsons Companies, making Vons part of the Albertsons family of banners.

Today, Vons operates stores primarily in Southern California and Southern Nevada, with a product mix including groceries, fresh produce, bakery, deli, meat, seafood, and pharmacy services. The brand maintains a customer loyalty program, Just for U, and participates in Albertsons Companies’ digital coupons and online ordering platforms.

As a regional chain, Vons competes with other national and regional grocers in its markets and participates in the broader supply and distribution network of Albertsons Companies. The Vons brand continues to be recognized for its long-standing presence in Southern California grocery retail.
