Voidsregions

Voidsregions is a neologism used to refer to spatial zones characterized by very low density of objects or features within a defined domain. The term is not standardized in any single field; rather, it appears in informal discussions, datasets, and software documentation to describe void-like regions identified by data analysis. Voidsregions can denote either individual voids or the union of several disconnected voids, depending on the context.

In cosmology, the term is sometimes used as a shorthand for cosmic voids—large, underdense regions that interrupt the otherwise filamentary distribution of galaxies. Voidsregions may be defined by a density threshold below a fraction of the mean density and bounded by higher-density structures, with boundary delineation achieved through watershed, Voronoi, or density-based methods. The study of these regions sheds light on large-scale structure formation and cosmological parameters.

In other domains, voidsregions describe areas with sparse data coverage or low feature density, such as ecological surveys, urban sensing networks, or geographic information systems.
