Voertuigtotbuilding is a Dutch term that translates to "vehicle to building" in English. It refers to the integration of electric vehicles (EVs) with buildings' electrical systems. This technology allows EVs to not only draw power from the building's grid for charging but also to supply power back to the building when needed. This bidirectional power flow is a key component of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and vehicle-to-home (V2H) concepts.

In a V2H scenario, the EV acts as a mobile battery for a household. During peak electricity demand or power outages, the EV can discharge its stored energy to power the home's essential appliances and systems. This can help reduce reliance on the grid and provide a backup power source.

Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) extends this concept to a larger scale. EVs connected to the grid can be managed by grid operators to help stabilize electricity supply and demand. They can charge during periods of low demand and low electricity prices, and then discharge power back to the grid during peak demand or when renewable energy sources are less available. This can help integrate more renewable energy into the grid and reduce the need for traditional power plants.
