Vitellaria is a genus of trees in the family Sapotaceae. The genus currently contains a single accepted species, Vitellaria paradoxa, commonly known as shea butter tree. This tree is native to the drier regions of West Africa, from Senegal to northeastern Sudan and Uganda. It is a deciduous tree that grows to a height of 7 to 15 meters (23 to 49 feet) and can live for centuries.
