This behavior is characterized by a strong desire to regain a past relationship, despite evidence that the relationship was harmful or toxic.

The term "visszacsatolódás" was popularized by Hungarian psychologist Sándor Radó in the 1970s. He observed that individuals who had experienced severe emotional trauma, such as abuse or neglect, often exhibited a pattern of repeatedly seeking out and becoming involved with individuals who were similar to their primary caregivers. This behavior is driven by an unconscious need to recreate a secure attachment figure, even if the new relationship is not healthy.
