Virtsanpidätys
Virtsanpidätys, also known as urinary continence, refers to the ability to voluntarily control the release of urine from the bladder. This complex physiological process involves the coordinated function of the bladder muscle (detrusor), the internal and external urethral sphincters, and the nervous system. When the bladder fills with urine, stretch receptors send signals to the brain, prompting the sensation of needing to urinate. The brain then initiates a reflex to keep the sphincters closed, allowing for voluntary holding of urine until an appropriate time and place.
Disruptions to this system can lead to urinary incontinence, a condition characterized by involuntary loss of
Maintaining urinary continence relies on a healthy urinary tract, intact nerve pathways, and strong pelvic floor
