Viperwolves
Viperwolves are a fictional species of canine-like creatures that inhabit the desolate, volcanic plains of the planet Xylos. These creatures are characterized by their elongated, serpentine necks, which can extend up to three times the length of their bodies, and their venomous fangs. Their fur is a mottled obsidian and ash grey, providing excellent camouflage against the rocky terrain. Viperwolves are primarily carnivorous, preying on smaller Xylosian fauna, but have also been observed scavenging carrion. They are known for their pack hunting behavior, coordinating attacks with surprising agility despite their somewhat ungainly appearance. Their venom is a neurotoxin that paralyzes prey, allowing the viperwolf to consume its meal without resistance. Reproduction is ovoviviparous, with females giving birth to live young after a gestation period of approximately six months. The young are born with underdeveloped necks and fangs, relying on their mother for protection and sustenance until they reach maturity. Despite their predatory nature, viperwolves are generally non-aggressive towards larger, unfamiliar creatures unless provoked or defending their territory. Their keen senses of smell and hearing make them highly effective hunters, and their venomous bite serves as a potent defense mechanism.
