Vijayalaya
Vijayalaya was the founder of the Chola dynasty in South India. He reigned in the 9th century CE and is credited with establishing the Chola rule after a period of fragmentation. Vijayalaya was initially a feudatory of the Pallava kings of Kanchipuram. He took advantage of the weakening of the Pallava power in the mid-9th century to assert his independence.
