Vetésgépek, also known as seed drills or planters, are agricultural machines used for sowing seeds. Their primary function is to accurately and efficiently place seeds into the soil at a predetermined depth and spacing. This ensures optimal germination and growth conditions for the crops.

There are several types of vetésgépek, broadly categorized by their method of seed placement. Broadcast seeders scatter seeds over the entire soil surface, relying on subsequent operations like harrowing to incorporate them. However, this method can lead to uneven distribution and poor seed placement. More precise machines include row seeders, which plant seeds in distinct rows, and precision planters, which place individual seeds at exact intervals.

Modern vetésgépek often incorporate features such as adjustable seed rates, furrow openers, depth control mechanisms, and closing devices that cover the seeds with soil. Some advanced models also include systems for simultaneous fertilization, inter-row cultivation, or even the application of pesticides. The design of a vetésgép can vary significantly depending on the type of seed being sown, soil conditions, and the desired planting pattern. Pneumatic seeders, for example, use air pressure to transport seeds to the furrow, allowing for high planting speeds and uniform distribution of even small seeds. Mechanical seeders, on the other hand, typically use rotating fluted wheels or cups to pick up and deliver seeds. The choice of vetésgép significantly impacts crop yield and the efficiency of agricultural operations.
