Verwaltungsgebiete

Verwaltungsgebiete, German for administrative districts, are territorial units within a state that are designated for governmental and administrative purposes. These areas are established by law and serve to decentralize governance, allowing for more localized administration of public services and responsibilities. The specific structure and names of Verwaltungsgebiete vary significantly between different countries and even within federal states.

In Germany, for instance, Verwaltungsgebiete can refer to several levels of organization. At the state level, the largest administrative units are often called Länder (states). Below the Länder are Regierungsbezirke (government districts), which are further subdivided into Kreise (districts or counties) and kreisfreie Städte (independent cities).
